Bulk GSTIN Validator
Paste a list or upload your supplier master to catch mistyped GSTINs before they reach a return. Each GSTIN is checked for structure, state code, embedded PAN and check digit, and duplicates are flagged.
Free, no login. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type or upload is sent to our servers.
A computational aid, not professional advice. Check results against the governing law, notifications and your own judgement before relying on them.
How a GSTIN is built
A GSTIN has 15 characters, and each part means something:
- Characters 1–2: the state code of the registration (for example 27 for Maharashtra, 29 for Karnataka).
- Characters 3–12: the PAN of the business. Its fourth character tells you the holder type: C for a company, F for a firm or LLP, P for an individual, and so on.
- Character 13: the entity number, meaning which registration this is for the same PAN in that state (1 to 9, then A to Z).
- Character 14: the letter Z for regular taxpayers.
- Character 15: a check character computed from the first 14. If a single character is mistyped, the check character almost always stops matching.
When to use it
Run your supplier or customer master through it before month-end. A mistyped GSTIN on a purchase invoice means the supplier’s filing never matches your books in GSTR-2B, and the input tax credit sits in dispute until someone finds the typo.
Reconcile, don’t just validate
AuditorTax reconciles your clients’ purchase registers against GSTR-2B deterministically, matching on GSTIN, invoice number, date and amount.
Frequently asked questions
What does this GSTIN validator check?
It checks that each GSTIN has the right 15-character structure, a real GST state code, an embedded PAN in the correct format, the letter Z in the 14th place, and a correct check digit (the last character). A wrong check digit almost always means a typo.
Does a valid result mean the GSTIN is active?
No. This is a format and checksum check done in your browser. Whether a GSTIN is currently active, cancelled or suspended can only be confirmed on the GST portal’s Search Taxpayer page.
Is my list uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and checked by your browser. Nothing you paste or upload is sent to our servers.
Why is a GSTIN starting with 96 or 99 marked invalid?
Code 96 (Foreign Country) is used only as a place-of-supply code in returns, never as the start of a GSTIN. Code 99 (Centre Jurisdiction) does start some GSTINs, those of centrally registered persons such as foreign online service (OIDAR) suppliers, but in a different format that is not built on a PAN. This tool checks regular PAN-based GSTINs, so it does not mark those as valid.
Can I check special registrations like TDS/TCS or UIN numbers?
This tool validates the regular-taxpayer GSTIN format (with Z in the 14th place). TDS/TCS registrations, UINs and non-resident registrations use different formats and will show as invalid here.
